LOVE
HIM, OR HATE HIM,
Most
Kelpie exhibitors would agree that he has done much to raise the profile of the
Australian Kelpie in the show ring.
Rap
(as he is known to those he loves) was whelped on 26rd
October 1995, his Dam Ch Klassikelp Buttons N bows, his sire Ch Kalan Smart Gun,
both Royal show challenge winners.
Rap
was titled at 13 months of age, with all his championship points coming
from 6 & 7 point challenges. He only won 2 classes in group prior to his title,
1 being Baby in Group
and the other as a
Puppy
in Group.
The
first indication of better things to come was when he was awarded the Reserve
Challenge and Puppy of Breed at Adelaide Royal in 1996 at the age of 10 months,
which was followed the next month by
Puppy of Breed at Melbourne
Royal.
At
the Working Dog Club of Victoria a few weeks later he was Reserve Challenge to
Jill Saulbrey's great dog Ch Kelpland Oso Tough, then he followed this up 2 days
later winning the Challenge and Best of Breed for the first time at
Sunbury Canine Club Show on Melbourne Cup Day. Since then Rap has not missed
winning the Challenge and Best of Breed at these 2 shows for 9 years,
including Best Exhibit
in Group at Sunbury
Canine Club at 4years of age, and a
Runner-up Best Exhibit in Show
at The Working Dog club of Victoria at 11 years of age, and then
retiring from the ring at his 10th outing with a Reserve
Challenge and Runner-up Best of Breed behind his brother Ch Klassikelp Mac
the Knife. He also collected
4 Group awards
at the Working Dog show and
3 Group awards
at Sunbury, a record on its own.
Late
in 1997 Rap had probably the most prestigious win of his career over 3 days
he was Intermediate in
Show at the Working
Dog Club of Victoria under Mr G Gordon (Canada), and
Best Exhibit in Group and Best
Australian Bred in Group
at the much respected Sunbury Canine Club show (Melbourne Cup Day) under Mr M
Mapes (USA), with a total show entry in excess of 2000 dogs this was a
great thrill.
From
here on in he won 47
consecutive Challenges
and along the way achieving his first
Runner-Up Best in Group
at Redcliffs Kennel Club, and his first
Best in Group
at Shepparton Kennel Club.
Rap
has been a prolific winner over the years, and his
Classes in Group and Show
successes are too numerous to list here, but at the end of
his career,
his record stands
at over 3000 ccpts and as follows at All Breeds and Specialty Shows
1 Multi Best In Show
2 Runner-Up Best in Show
19 Multi Best Exhibits in Group
21 Multi Runner-Up Best Exhibits in Group
1 Multi Best In Show Specialty
8 Multi Royal Challenges and Best of Breeds from the only
Royals he has been shown at Adelaide & Melbourne.
Adding
to this his many In Show and Group awards at Open show level it has been
a great 13
years.
Rap
achieved his Grand
Champion title at 4 years of age
and the prestige of being the
first Australian Kelpie in
Victoria to receive this title.
His total number of Challenge points amassed has now reached in excess of
3000.
Rap
is now a retiree enjoying his days with the luxury of the couch at home.
